Work & 7 Wastes
Work can be divided into three categories – the value add (what the customer is prepared to pay for), the essential non value add (the enablers of the value add), and waste. Waste takes many forms and its’ reduction is what improves productivity. The seven categories of waste have been identified as Overproduction, Inventory, Transportation, Process Waste, Idle Time, Operator Motion and Bad Quality. They will be present in all processes, but it is their elimination or reduction that frees up time and resources to improve productivity.
However, spotting waste is more complicated than it may seem, especially in industries not engaged in manufacturing of discrete components. HFL Consulting are expert in both seeing waste in your processes and enabling your personnel to do so too, allowing your business to set off on a journey of waste elimination that will see productivity continuing to rise.
