A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a written document or instruction detailing all steps and activities of a process or procedure. These should be carried out without any deviation or modification to guarantee the expected outcome.

All safety critical and quality impacting processes and procedures should be laid out in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). These SOPs should form the basis for the routine training program of each employee. SOPs should be regularly reviewed to assure compliance to the regulatory requirements and the working practice.

SOPs should be used to underpin our business activities but all too often the foundations are weak or unstable. Procedures can be long winded and hard to read or lacking in essential information, leading to differences in interpretation and process variation. This can have a negative impact on both safety and performance.

Through use of presentations, audio / visual materials, case studies and workshops to ensure engagement of the learners and maximise learning potential the workshop will help to provide an understanding of:

  • The key requirements of SOPs
  • The key components of SOPs in order to meet quality, productivity, health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Reliability and Usability of procedures, considering human factors
  • The user centric approach to producing SOPs
  • Ensuring adherence to SOPs
