Functional Safety Management Awareness - in association with the Chemical Industries Association
|Functional safety relates to the use of safety instrumented systems which protect against an undesired consequence to people, the environment, or the business. Some of the safety instrumented systems will require a safety integrity level (SIL) and managing in accordance with industry standards such as BS EN 61508 and BS EN 61511. The reasoning for the safety integrity level specified for safety instrumented systems should be rigorous and documented. From the design through to commissioning and maintenance, including testing, the guidance is prescriptive, and managers should be aware of the requirements placed on them in relation to such systems.
The course will provide an overview of the applicable legislation and guidance and the management processes involved, to provide a strategic overview of Functional Safety Management, allowing participants to act as the intelligent customer. The HSE defines Intelligent Customer Capability as “the capability of the organisation to have a clear understanding and knowledge of the product or service being supplied”.
